NAPIS ® (NAtural Products Information System)
is a laboratory information management system (LIMS) based database that is designed specifically to support natural products discovery. It is a program management and decision support system tool for prioritizing active leads in screening campaigns.
| NAPIS ® Enterprise |
Designed for use by large organizations with aggressive discovery programs, NAPIS® Enterprise includes advanced database security and administration methods that are consistent with electronic notebook concepts. NAPIS® Enterprise is a full featured system that runs on PC's and networks with the workstation database ORACLE® v 9i or 11g. Available with compound structure handling using ‘best of class’ development tools like
Accelrys® Direct.
|
| NAPIS ® Laboratory |
Designed for use by organizations that require NAPIS® functionality but do not require advanced database storage requirements, networking and administration, NAPIS® Laboratory is a full featured system that runs autonomously on a PC using standalone desktop Personal ORACLE®.
|
| NAPIS ® Lite |
Designed for use by field-biologists, NAPIS® Lite runs autonomously on PC's using desktop database Paradox® v 7.0 tables (Paradox® is not required for NAPIS® to run). It is a limited feature version that can be used in the field on laptop computers, has fewer sample handling features, and does not include the Chemistry or Report modules. Data entered into NAPIS® Lite can be uploaded to higher level NAPIS® products. Click here to download a free version of NAPIS® Lite from our website, or we can send you a CD-ROM.

Organization and rapid analysis of information using the NAPIS
® technology provides natural products researchers with the
tools necessary to compete in the fast-paced drug discovery
environment. For access to biodiversity resources, effective
information management for planning, permitting and compliance
assurance shows responsible ‘best efforts’ on the part of the
programs seeking access. For managing the discovery process in the
laboratory, integration of field-biology, chemistry and bioassay
data is necessary to meet the requirements of contemporary drug
discovery programs.
NAPIS ® is developed within a client-server environment but can also function autonomously. It is modular, scaleable, and secure.
Benefits of the system include:
| Data Mining |
Dynamically link any fields in the NAPIS ® data model, including bioassay results. Display query results in a selectivity matrix for easy analysis and prioritization of actives. Export to Excel ® or Spotfire ® for further analysis and data visualization. Use Crystal Reports ® to generate reports in custom formats.

Field Biology and Microbiology |
Standardized documentation of taxonomy, growth and fermentation conditions. Link specimen photographs. Link protocols and media recipes. Optimize fermentation conditions for production of active metabolites. Track sample processing and archive. GIS mapping technology integration.
|
| Separation Chemistry |
Electronic notebook design that is consistent with the FDA’s 21 CFR Part 11 requirements for electronic record keeping. Track chemistry samples through bioassay directed isolation. Through the live-link to bioassay results, confirm that activity is not lost and that it is indeed conserved through processing. Manage complex data relationships where fractions are pooled to create new samples. Register structures in the chemistry library and link to the many chemistry samples that contain them.
|
| Analytical Chemistry |
Integrated chemical profile and chemical QC data. Profile data represent the chemical fingerprints of crude mixtures. QC data represent the properties of semi-pure or purified chemical constituents. Link chromatograms and spectra. Link spectral library matches.

The extended information handling requirements faced by drug discovery programs screening natural products chemicals are met by the NAPIS ® technology, where they can be converted to assets for guiding future efforts and enhancing the probability of success.
